Hoorn Hosts a Memorable 3x3 Event with Olympic Players and Local Leaders!

On Wednesday, the 30th of October, the city of Hoorn came together for an exciting 3x3 basketball event celebrating the sport’s growth and the power of community. Organized by Hoppers Hoorn, in collaboration with 3X3 Unites, the event welcomed over 50 young players aged between 9 and 21. With local leaders and Olympic gold medalist Dimeo van der Horst in attendance, the day was filled with skill-building sessions, games, and inspiration. Spearheaded by Alderman Dick Bennis, the event highlighted Hoorn’s commitment to youth development and community building through sports.

The day started with an opening ceremony, where Rick van Putten introduced the leaders from 3X3 Unites and informed the players about the day’s schedule. Next, players participated in clinics led by 3X3 Unites, with sessions tailored for both beginners and advanced players.

The beginners’ session focused on basketball basics like dribbling, passing, and shooting, helping new players build confidence and become familiar with the game. Advanced players engaged in more dynamic, fast-paced play, focusing on tactics and teamwork under the guidance of experienced coaches.

This inclusive format allowed all participants to grow their skills at their own level.

One of the day’s highlights was the masterclass led by Olympic gold medalist Dimeo van der Horst, who spent an hour teaching scoring techniques specific to 3x3 basketball. Van der Horst’s impressive skills and expert tips gave the young athletes an up-close look at high-level play. Following his demonstration, he took part in a Q&A session, answering questions about his training, experiences, and journey to Olympic success.

As a memorable final touch, participants were thrilled to take photos with Dimeo and his Olympic gold medal—a moment they’ll likely cherish for years to come.

The day continued with a lively mini-tournament where participants put their skills to the test. Divided into teams, both beginners and advanced players took to the court in friendly matches, showcasing their enthusiasm and new skills.

The tournament atmosphere was electric, with cheers from spectators adding to the excitement. It was a fantastic way for participants to bond, play, and experience the energy of a real game setting.

The 3x3 basketball event in Hoorn was a celebration of the sport and the community. With Alderman Bennis’ support, Dimeo van der Horst’s inspiring presence, and the efforts of Hoppers Hoorn and 3X3 Unites, the day was an undeniable success. As 3x3 basketball continues to gain momentum, we look forward to seeing everyone again at the next event!
