Honoring Olympic 3x3 Champions Shines a Spotlight on the Impact of the 3X3 Unites Ecosystem!
They created one of the most beautiful moments at the Olympics: the Dutch 3x3 team. After a thrilling final against host nation France, Worthy de Jong, Dimeo van der Horst, Arvin Slagter, and Jan Driessen secured historic Olympic basketball gold. For this achievement, they were honored extensively by 3X3 Unites and the Dutch Basketball Federation (NBB).
The event venue De Westerliefde in Westerpark, Amsterdam, was packed on Tuesday, August 27, with friends, family, sponsors, and other guests who have a deep love for 3x3 basketball. Among other things, a film was shown about the team's extraordinary journey in Paris.
"You are not only Olympic champions but also role models who have shown that dreams can come true, no matter where you come from," said NBB's general director Maarten Hoffer. "You are an inspiration to a new generation of basketball players and deserve to be in the spotlight."
At the Westerliefde, the entire 3X3 Unites ecosystem came together. The foundation empowers vulnerable young people to take control of their lives and pursue their dreams through 3x3 basketball. It's no coincidence that the motto is: from the streets to the top.
And who better embodies this motto than Worthy de Jong? He started playing basketball as a young boy on the courts in the Bijlmer, where 3X3 Unites was also born. By pursuing his dreams, he reached the pinnacle at the Olympics: he made the winning two-pointer for the Netherlands.
To further emphasize the impact of the 3x3 basketball team's golden journey, Aaron Sakyiama, one of the youths from 3X3 Unites, addressed the Olympic champions: "I think everyone watched your games, even people who normally never watch 3x3 basketball. Everyone was talking about it."
He continued: "I work at 3X3 Unites, where I learned to use 3x3 basketball as a tool to take control of my life and pursue my dreams. That's exactly what you did in Paris. Everyone who saw you win will now say to themselves, 'I can do this too.'"
But the success of the 3x3 basketball players wasn't just an inspiration for the youth at 3X3 Unites, but also for co-founder Jesper Jobse, who addressed the champions. "Your success has motivated me even more to create the most spectacular event ever," said Jobse, referring to the World Tour Amsterdam Masters.
The event is organized by 3X3 Unites and will take place on October 12 and 13 in the iconic Gashouder in Westerpark. In addition to the world's best 3x3 basketball players - including the Dutch Olympic champions - there will be various side events where the youths from 3X3 Unites will have the opportunity to participate and showcase their talents.
Jobse: "We not only stand on the highest podium with the Dutch 3x3 basketball team but also with the social programs we have and the innovative events we organize, thanks to the support of our partners who help us think outside the box. During the World Tour Amsterdam Masters, we want to bring sports and entertainment together more than ever before."
