Building Communities Through 3X3 Basketball: Hilversum's Journey and Future Vision
3X3 in Hilversum: What Has Been Achieved So Far?
Since 2022, 3X3 Unites has worked closely with the municipality of Hilversum to make remarkable progress in 3x3 basketball and community-building. Through innovative projects, inspiring events, and the training of local leaders, Hilversum has become a thriving hub for 3x3 basketball. This article highlights the achievements so far and looks ahead to the exciting basketball day scheduled for Saturday, December 21, 2024.
Training Leaders and Building Communities
A key part of the Hilversum initiative is training 3x3 Leaders and fostering strong local communities. In 2022, the first eight Leaders were trained, and they have since been organizing weekly activities at the Nike Playcourt in the Arenapark. This initiative expanded in 2024 with the addition of a new playcourt at the Hilfertsheem College in Hilversum North-East.
In the same year, a second Leadercourse was launched, resulting in seven new Leaders earning their certificates. As part of their final project, these Leaders organized successful side events during the 3X3 Pro League in June. This new generation of Leaders plays a crucial role in strengthening the 3X3 community and increasing engagement with the sport.
Successful Events
The events organized over the past few years have attracted enthusiastic participants and supporters. For instance, on November 3, a fall holiday tournament took place, featuring over 80 participants across more than 20 teams. Building on this success, a special event is planned for the winter holidays in Sporthal De Lieberg. The highlight of the day is an exclusive clinic by Olympic champion Dimeo van der Horst, followed by an open tournament for players aged 12 and up.
With music provided by Hilversum’s own DJ Mike Lewis, known from the 3X3 World Tour, the vibrant atmosphere is guaranteed. These events showcase how 3X3 Unites successfully blends sports, fun, and community-building.
A Unique Basketball Day at De Lieberg
On Saturday, December 21, 2024, 3X3 Unites, in collaboration with the municipality of Hilversum, will host a free basketball day at Sporthal De Lieberg. The program offers a fantastic opportunity to experience 3X3 basketball and be active together.
Program:
11:00-12:30: Clinic for children under 12, led by Dimeo van der Horst.
13:00-16:45: Open 3X3 tournament for all ages and skill levels.
During the clinic, young participants will learn the fundamentals of 3x3 basketball and be inspired by Dimeo van der Horst’s incredible story. The tournament is open to basketball players of all ages and abilities. Participants can register individually or as a team, and the games will be guided by experienced 3x3 Leaders.
Looking Ahead to 2025
Building on the successes of recent years and the year-ending event in 2024, 3X3 Unites is ambitiously planning for 2025. The focus will include introducing 3X3 basketball to elementary schools and further expanding the community in Hilversum.
